Our goal was to keep
the existing furniture and encourage the homeowners to use the room.
We wanted to warm up
the room to make it welcoming for the family and their guests.
The original placement
of the area rug, gave the impression of a runway leading you to the sofa
on the distant wall.
The original colors in
the room were mauve, blue and pale green. The area rug had several
other colors to work with and we took our cue from there.
We chose Mountain Laurel by Benjamin Moore for the
wall color and a paprika red color to add in accents.
The main focus was the
placement of the area rug. Putting it on an angel takes away the
runway look and also allows more of the beautiful wood floor to show.
Pulling the furniture
away from the walls at the same angle as the rug invites you in.
Eliminating one of the
matching tables (moved to the entry) and bringing in the table from the
entry along with a different lamp creates more interest in the overall
appearance.
The finishing touches
of art and accessories (found elsewhere in the home) pull the room
together. The final touch was the fresh flowers and plants that
will add life to any room. |
